Human Trafficking is a crime against humanity. It involves an act of recruiting, transporting, transferring, harboring or receiving a person through a use of force, coercion or other means, for the purpose of exploiting them.
India is a source, destination, and transit country for men, women, and children trafficked for the purposes of forced labor and commercial sexual exploitation.
NGO’s estimate this problem affects between 20 to 65 million Indians. Women and girls are prime targets for commercial sexual exploitation and forced marriages. Children are subjected to forced labor as factory workers, domestic servants, beggars and agriculture workers and have also been used as armed combatants by some terrorist and insurgent groups.
India is also a destination for women and girls from Nepal and Bangladesh trafficked for the purpose of commercial sexual exploitation. Indian women are trafficked to the Middle East for commercial sexual exploitation.
